The Director General considers a visit such as this to be a useful forum for discussing issues of mutual cooperation between a Member State and his Organization.

At this visit, the Director General focussed on IMSO’s business plan in respect of its oversight function with respect to some of the public satellite safety and security services by mobile satellite communication systems, Inmarsat in particular; the coordination of the Long-Range Identification and Tracking of Ships (LRIT) System worldwide; and also in its involvement with other international organisations that are involved in mobile and maritime communication matters.

The Director General encouraged Nepal to become a member of the IMSO fraternity by acceding to its Convention. In response, the honourable Minister stated that upon his return to Nepal, he would gladly brief his colleagues who deal with communication technology & policy and encourage his country’s membership of IMSO.

The distinguished guests also welcomed a tour of Inmarsat’s Network Operation Centre (NOC).
