Fiji Delegation Visits IMSO

The Director General, Captain Moin Ahmed was very pleased to host yet another delegation from a Small Island State. A delegation from Fiji comprising the CEO of the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) Mr. John Tunidau and the Fiji High Commission official Mr. Jokatama Fotu were welcomed to IMSO today.

The delegates also held lengthy discussions with IMSO’s Director General and technical officers regarding Fiji’s integration into the Long Range Identification and Tracking of Ships LRIT system, acceptance by Fiji of the IMSO legal instruments and technical cooperation from IMSO.

Furthermore, as an integral part of their visit to IMSO, a tour of the Inmarsat Network Operating Centre, was arranged.

The delegation expressed its overall satisfaction with the visit and also stated that they felt privileged to have gained insight into the workings of the cutting edge satellite technologies of Inmarsat and IMSO’s role on the oversight of Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) services and the international coordination of the Long Range Identification and Tracking of Ships (LRIT) system.
