SECRETARY-MINISTRY OF PORTS & SHIPPING OF PAKISTAN VISITS IMSO

The Secretary-Ministry of Ports & Shipping of Pakistan, Mr Mumtaz Ali Shah, paid a courtesy visit today on 26 July 2017 to the IMSO Director General, Captain Moin Ahmed at the IMSO Headquarters. During this meeting matters were discussed that are of mutual importance to both IMSO and Pakistan, issues relating to the field of satellite communications and evolution of maritime communication services.

The opportunity was taken to visit Inmarsat’s Network Operations and Satellite Control Centre to gain a more in-depth understanding about networks management and control. Mr Mumtaz expressed a keen interest towards the provision of GMDSS and LRIT services which fall under his portfolio and suggested that IMSO should enhance its efforts on the capacity-building of Member States on GMDSS and LRIT, so that countries like Pakistan can benefit from such efforts. Captain Ahmed acknowledged the continuous support of the Pakistan High Commission, UK and the Government of Pakistan to the work of IMSO, and thanked Mr Mumtaz for his commitment in the evolution of mobile satellite communications to ensure efficiency of transportation and maritime safety.

Both the Pakistan Secretary-Ministry of Ports & Shipping and IMSO Director General have looked forward to work closely together and were fervent about the continued cooperation between Pakistan and IMSO. Discussions were held to promote such cooperation.

Mr Mumtaz was impressed by the unique perspective of IMSO in serving matters of maritime safety and congratulated the Director General for his dynamic approach in serving the Organization and its Member States.
