Today, the 19th December 2019, the Director General of the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO) has issued the Letter of Compliance to Iridium Satellite LLC as the new provider of Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). The Public Services Agreement between IMSO and Iridium on the 12th March 2019 has now entered into force from today, upon the issuance of the Letter of Compliance. The Public Services Agreement signed with Iridium can now be found in the ‘Basic Documents’ section of the IMSO website, along with the Letter of Compliance.
This is an important development for satellite communications in the service of public safety and marks Iridium becoming a certified provider for GMDSS services globally.
