Today, 17 April 2023, the new IMSO Director General, Mr. Laurent Parenté, had his first meeting with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General, Mr. Kitack Lim, who congratulated Mr. Parenté on his appointment and welcomed him to the IMO building, where the IMSO offices are headquartered. Mr. Parenté has a long history working under the leadership of the Secretary-General, while serving as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Vanuatu to IMO.
During the meeting, Mr. Parenté reiterated that as a key strategic partner of IMO and world shipping, IMSO will continue strengthening its operations to the highest standard and he will use his best endeavours to tackle the challenges ahead while improving the delivery of the vital services it provides. In his new role as IMSO Director General, Mr. Parenté said he very much looks forward to continuing working together with IMO to promote the safety and security of seafarers and thereby fulfilling IMSO’s core mission and hopes to further reinforce the strong partnership between the organisations, which is fundamental for the success in the delivery of GMDSS and LRIT services.
