IMSO Director General Laurent Parenté receives Ambassador José Augusto Andrade, Permanent Representative of Brazil to International Organisations in London.
Today, the Director General, Mr. Laurent Parenté, along with the Head of Operational Services, Mr. Halil Keskin, welcomed Iridium representatives: Mr. Kyle Hurst, Director Maritime Safety and Security Services and Mr. Mark Lawson, Maritime Safety and Security Services Manager for a meeting at IMSO’s Headquarters.
Following its approval by IMO as a recognised mobile satellite provider within the GMDSS system in 2019, Iridium has been providing services for mariners using its equipment as the second provider alongside Inmarsat.
During the meeting, Iridium congratulated Mr. Parenté on his recent start of term as IMSO Director General and reaffirmed their commitment to continue enhancing safety of shipping and seafarers.
Mr. Parenté was pleased Iridium and IMSO were working together to tackle the challenges ahead to ensure reliable GMDSS services worldwide.
The Director General, Mr. Laurent Parenté, accompanied by Mr. Halil Keskin, Head of Operational Services, was delighted to host a meeting with Inmarsat representatives: Ms. Allison Horrocks, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Mr. Peter Broadhurst, Senior Vice President along with Mr. John Dodd, Director Safety Services at IMSO’s Headquarters on 26 April 2023.
During the meeting, Inmarsat congratulated Mr. Parenté on the start of his term as IMSO Director General and expressed their commitment to working with him and the Directorate to build upon the relationship of cooperation the two organisations have had since 1999.
Mr. Parenté welcomed the openness of Inmarsat to a collaboration built on trust and mutual understanding and the assurances of Inmarsat to further strengthening the operation of the GMDSS system.

Today, 17 April 2023, the new IMSO Director General, Mr. Laurent Parenté, had his first meeting with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General, Mr. Kitack Lim, who congratulated Mr. Parenté on his appointment and welcomed him to the IMO building, where the IMSO offices are headquartered. Mr. Parenté has a long history working under the leadership of the Secretary-General, while serving as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Vanuatu to IMO.
During the meeting, Mr. Parenté reiterated that as a key strategic partner of IMO and world shipping, IMSO will continue strengthening its operations to the highest standard and he will use his best endeavours to tackle the challenges ahead while improving the delivery of the vital services it provides. In his new role as IMSO Director General, Mr. Parenté said he very much looks forward to continuing working together with IMO to promote the safety and security of seafarers and thereby fulfilling IMSO’s core mission and hopes to further reinforce the strong partnership between the organisations, which is fundamental for the success in the delivery of GMDSS and LRIT services.
