IMSO participated in the International Maritime Organization Sub-regional Workshop on Search and Rescue (IAMSAR Manual Module II), held in Jamaica from 18 to 22 August 2025.

On 19 August, IMSO was represented by Deputy Head of Operational Services, Mr Pier-Giovanni Taranti, who delivered a presentation on the use of the Long-Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) system in support of Search and Rescue (SAR) and provided insights into GMDSS recognized services.

The session also featured a live demonstration of LRIT in a simulated rescue scenario, with the participation of the Brazil Regional LRIT Data Centre. It was also a valuable opportunity to remind participants of the capability of LRIT and, in particular, the SAR component which is made available free of charge to Member States.

Workshops such as these play an important role in strengthening regional SAR capacity and ensuring that maritime safety tools are effectively applied in practice. IMSO is pleased to contribute to IMO's technical cooperation and capacity-building activities.
