The Director General of IMSO Captain Moin Ahmed warmly welcomed His Excellency, Mr. Sulaiman Almazroui, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates today. During this visit, both the Director General and the Ambassador discussed matters of mutual relationship between IMSO and the United Arab Emirates.
The Director General elaborated on the IMSO’s future business plan regarding the oversight function that IMSO plays in relation to public satellite safety and security services by mobile satellite communication systems, Inmarsat, and with other providers who will be GMDSS approved in the coming years. Discussion also included coordination of the Long-Range Identification and Tracking of Ships (LRIT) System worldwide and its involvement with other international organisations that are involved in mobile and maritime communication matters.
The Ambassador had taken to visit Inmarsat’s Network Operations and Satellite Control Centre to observe various satellite antenna and communication equipment used in the maritime and aviation communication, and networks management and control. Mr Almazroui expressed a definite interest in the provision of GMDSS and LRIT service, that is so central to the shipping industry in the United Arab Emirates.
Mr Almazroui was fascinated by the unique perspectives of IMSO in addressing matters of maritime safety and commended the Director General for his enthusiasm in serving the Organization and its Member States.
Both the Ambassador of United Arab Emirates and IMSO Director General have looked toward to strengthening their working relationship and keen to facilitate further cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and IMSO. Discussions have been held to promote such collaboration.
