On 29 September 2022 the twenty-eighth session of the Assembly of the International Mobile Satellite Organization elected His Excellency Mr. Laurent Parenté of the Republic of Vanuatu as the new Director General of the Organization. Ambassador Parenté is currently the Permanent Representative to both IMO and IMSO and will take up office on 15 April 2023, after the departure of his predecessor Director General Captain Moin Ahmed.
In his address to the Assembly after being elected, Ambassador Parenté expressed his deepest gratitude to those IMSO Member States which supported his candidature and also stated that “based on trust and openness but also close cooperation and support, I have no doubt we can all work together towards a common goal, strengthening the functioning of this Organization and therefore raising IMSO profile to make this Organization stronger considering its sensitive and legitimate purpose”. He also acknowledged Director General Captain Moin Ahmed on how much passion, commitment, and determination he has put in his work leading the Organization.
Ambassador Parenté was elected for a period of four years with the possibility of re-election.
