IMSO hosts WMU students for Director General’s discourse on maritime satellite services
IMSO was pleased to welcome 35 students from the World Maritime University (WMU) to its headquarters for two dedicated lectures delivered by the IMSO Director General, Mr Laurent Parenté.
Mr Parenté provided an overview of recent developments in satellite communications supporting maritime safety, with particular emphasis on the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) and the role of recognized service providers in ensuring its reliability and continuity.
The lecture also highlighted the growing importance of safeguarding radio spectrum used for maritime safety services, especially in light of increasing demand and rapid technological advancements.
In addition, Mr Parenté addressed the Long-Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) system, focusing on its government-to-government architecture and its critical role in ensuring secure and dependable access to vessel position information in today’s complex geopolitical environment.
IMSO thanks the WMU students for their interest and participation during this visit.
