IMSO participated in the 16th World-Wide Navigational Warning Service (WWNWS) Sub-Committee meeting
The International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO) recently participated in the 16th session of the World-Wide Navigational Warning Service (WWNWS) Sub-Committee meeting, a significant event held under the auspices of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). The meeting brought together key maritime stakeholders to enhance the safety and efficiency of global maritime navigation.
The WWNWS, established to guide and monitor the dissemination of essential navigational warnings and information to mariners, plays a critical role in the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). These warnings inform seafarers of any hazards or navigational challenges, helping ships avoid potential dangers. The 16th WWNWS Sub-Committee session was a platform for international cooperation, where participants discussed technological advancements, policy updates, and the ongoing modernization of the GMDSS.
IMSO’s participation in this meeting highlights its key role as the oversight body of the performance and compliance of mobile satellite service providers within the GMDSS, such as Inmarsat and Iridium, contributing to the continuous and reliable delivery of maritime safety information to vessels across the globe. By attending the WWNWS16 meeting, IMSO further reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen global maritime safety.
During the session, IMSO technical officer, Mr. Philip Lane provided an update to the Sub-Committee on matters concerning the promulgation of Maritime Safety Information within IMSO’s remit.
The outcomes of the WWNWS Sub-Committee meetings will continue to enhance global maritime safety standards.
