IMSO welcomes its new Director General
Today, following his election on 29th September 2022 by the IMSO Assembly during its 28th Session, Mr. Laurent Parenté (Republic of Vanuatu) has begun his four-year term as the new Director General of the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO).
Mr. Parenté has pledged “to drive IMSO, at such an important moment for the Organization and the satellite communications industry, to be relevant to Member States and to strengthen its mission to ensure safety at sea”.
Mr. Parenté appreciates the work of his predecessor, Captain Moin Ahmed and is looking forward to working with all members of the Directorate as well as engaging with Member States, Recognized Mobile Satellite Service Providers and other stakeholders over the coming months.
With almost 20 years of leadership experience in maritime safety, security and environmental protection, Mr. Parenté was the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Vanuatu to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Oil Pollution Fund (IOPC) since 2005 and IMSO since 2008. He was Chair of the IMO Technical Cooperation Committee and successfully led Vanuatu’s first candidature to the IMO Council elections for the biennium 2022-2023.
