IMSO Director General Strengthens Maritime Cooperation by Attending the IMO Regional Meeting in Barbados
IMSO Director General, Mr. Laurent Parenté embarked this week on a pivotal journey to Barbados to attend the Regional Meeting of Directors and Heads of Maritime Administrations. The visit marks a significant stride in fostering collaboration with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as part of its Integrated Technical Cooperation Program (ITCP).
This annual event has been jointly organised this year by IMO and the Barbados Ministry of Tourism and International Transport. The objective of the meeting is to update the knowledge of Directors and Heads of Maritime Administrations on the latest regulatory, training and other developments in the international and regional maritime sector and provide them with the latest information on current and future developments at IMO as well as offering a platform to deliberate on key challenges.

The Director General delivered an address emphasising IMSO’s unwavering commitment to promoting maritime safety and efficiency through the oversight of satellite communication services. He highlighted the indispensable role of satellite technology in ensuring seamless communication and data exchange for maritime operations.
Reflecting on the visit, the Director General expressed optimism about the prospects of enhanced cooperation among maritime administrations in the region and close collaboration with IMO to enhance its participation in advancing maritime safety and security at sea with a view to confirm IMSO’s role as a trusted partner in the global maritime community.
