IMSO Participates in the 2nd Meeting of WMO’s Advisory Group on Worldwide Met-Ocean Information and Warning Service Subcommittee
IMSO Technical Officer, Mr. Philip Lane participates in the 2nd meeting of the Advisory Group on the Worldwide Met-Ocean Information and Warning Service Subcommittee (AG-WWMIWS-SUBC-2), hosted by the United Kingdom Meteorological Service in Exeter. The event, organised under the auspices of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), is taking place from 18 to 20 September 2024.
The AG-WWMIWS Subcommittee plays a vital role in enhancing the availability and quality of meteorological and oceanographic (Met-Ocean) information, particularly related to the safety of life at sea. The advisory group, composed of representatives from leading international organizations, including IMSO, aims to strengthen the coordination of global Met-Ocean data and warnings for maritime safety.
IMSO’s participation underscores its commitment to ensuring the reliability and availability of safety services provided by mobile satellite communications systems, particularly in support of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). By collaborating with WMO and other stakeholders, IMSO aims to enhance its role in ensuring that essential meteorological and oceanographic information is efficiently disseminated to seafarers, contributing to safer maritime operations worldwide.
