IMSO Director General will deliver a guest lecture at IMO-IMLI on 8 May 2025

6 May 2025

This Thursday, 8 May, the IMSO Director General, Mr. Laurent Parenté will deliver a guest lecture at the IMO IMLI – International Maritime Law Institute in Malta.

He will reflect on IMSO’s transformation in 1999 from a treaty-based satellite operator to a neutral oversight body, an institutional evolution that remains unique among international organizations.

He will outline IMSO’s current unique functions, including oversight of GMDSS satellite providers and auditing of the LRIT system, and explore how these systems may evolve in response to the rapidly changing satellite communications landscape.

As the satellite market undergoes a profound transformation, the lecture will highlight the growing need to preserve critical maritime infrastructure and protect the L-band spectrum that underpins the reliability and availability of safety and tracking systems at sea.
