Safeguarding Maritime Safety at the ITU

This week, IMSO’s Technical Officer, Philip Lane, is in Geneva attending the ITU Radiocommunication Sector’s Working Party 4A (WP 4A) on Efficient orbit and spectrum utilization for the fixed-satellite and broadcasting-satellite services.

🛰️Why It Matters

WP 4A is developing technical methods and recommendations to support discussions leading up to the World Radiocommunication Conference 2027 (WRC-27). These deliberations will influence how satellite spectrum is managed globally.

⚙️ IMSO’s Role

IMSO’s participation and key contributions ensure that the integrity and continuity of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) remain a key consideration as new spectrum-sharing approaches and satellite technologies are evaluated.
