IMSO celebrates World Maritime Day!

When a seafarer calls for help, there is a life at risk, a crew depending on a response and a family waiting for news.

On World Maritime Day, our thoughts are with all seafarers facing hardship around the world, including those affected by conflict, abandonment or dangerous conditions at sea, and with the families sharing their uncertainty.

Being able to reach help is fundamental to their safety. At IMSO, our responsibility is to oversee the satellite services that enable ships to send distress alerts, receive safety information and communicate with rescue services. The work is technical, but its purpose is deeply human.

This year’s theme, “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence”, reminds us that international commitments must translate into protection people can depend on.

We thank those at sea and ashore who keep these communications working and respond when help is needed. Seafarers deserve that commitment every day of the year.
