Six different languages, yet one shared commitment to international cooperation – multilingualism at the IMSO Thirtieth Assembly
Six different languages, yet one shared commitment to international cooperation – multilingualism at the IMSO Thirtieth Assembly
IMSO’s 30th Assembly was the first to include Arabic and Chinese as official meeting languages, alongside English, French, Russian and Spanish, allowing more delegates to take part in discussions in their own language.
IMSO thanks all the interpreters for their excellent work throughout the week.
Their work takes close coordination. Depending on the languages involved, an interpreter may listen to a colleague’s interpretation and relay it into another language, while keeping up with the speaker. Technical terms, acronyms and fast speeches make the task even harder. Speaking a little more slowly certainly helps!
International meetings depend on this work. Thank you to the interpreters who helped make this Assembly a success.
