IMSO joins ceremony to open new GMDSS ships bridge simulator at Warsash Maritime School
IMSO’s Director General, Mr. Laurent Parenté and Head of Operational Services, Mr. Halil Keskin attended a ceremony at Warsash Maritime School on 28 March 2024, to officially open a new Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) ships bridge simulator donated by Inmarsat.
Warsash Maritime School is part of Solent University and is one of the few major maritime training centres of its kind in the world. The School provides over 150 maritime courses and has provided maritime and offshore training for over 70 years.
Inmarsat’s donation of the ships bridge simulator will provide invaluable hands-on experience for the students, allowing them to familiarise themselves with GMDSS equipment and practice the effective use of radio communications in a realistic setting.
The Director General highlighted in his statement at the ceremony that such practical exposure is a critical component of maritime education, as it not only builds confidence but also ensures that students are well-prepared for their future roles at sea. This contribution from Inmarsat will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the education and training of aspiring maritime professionals for years to come.
