Inmarsat Contingency Exercise and Public Services Committee meeting
Inmarsat Contingency Exercise and Public Services Committee meeting
On 27 March 2024, IMSO observed a successful demonstration of Inmarsat’s contingency process to recover Inmarsat-C GMDSS services in the event of an outage in the Atlantic Ocean East satellite region. It is a requirement for all mobile satellite providers recognized by the International Maritime Organization to undertake such exercises on a regular basis. IMSO’s oversight of the GMDSS satellite services helps to ensure that emergency communications services are always available to seafarers.
The contingency exercise was observed by IMSO Head of Operational Services, Mr. Halil Keskin and Technical Officer, Mr. Philip Lane. This is expected to be the final exercise to be conducted at Inmarsat’s City Road office. Inmarsat’s headquarters have now been relocated to Finsbury Square in London.
The contingency exercise was followed by a Public Services Committee (PSC) meeting attended by Ms. Alison Horrocks, Corporate Representative and Mr. Peter Broadhurst, Maritime Senior Vice-President Safety and Regulatory from Viasat+Inmarsat and IMSO Director General, Mr. Laurent Parenté and Head of Operational Services, Mr. Halil Keskin. This PSC meeting was hosted by Viasat+Inmarsat at their new headquarters.
